Stoked on this little video my roommate showed me yesterday of some guys using their imagination and making a dope video. When I was watching it, I felt like the guys were actually surfing, which is rad. Its crazy what people think up, and this is definitely one thing I want to try!! Probably not as cool as it looks, but still legit! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Last weekend was the first stop of the US Pro wakeboard tour in Acworth Georgia. We’d been the Acworth for a couple years, and i’d never thought of it as much of a fun stop. The new format definitely changed my perspective of it all, and it ended up being a great time. This year’s format is qualifiers on friday, and saturday has quarters, semis, finals, and then double up and kicker contest. Saturday ends with a big party and live music well into the evening. In the past, we had to ride sunday as well, which killed the saturday night partying, but no longer! Some of the notable highlights of the weekend were Harley’s final run, and Rusty’s 1080 in the double up contest. First of all, Harley’s finals run was the craziest run ever put together on a wakeboard. It included four mobe 5’s, a 7, and a 9! He’s years ahead of the competition, its pretty unbelievable. Then, on Rusty’s first hit in the double up contest, he straight stomps a toe 10! It was the first one i’d ever seen in person, so was pretty stoked to witness it. Also, my good friend Austin Hair made his first final, and ended the contest in 5th place. I’m definitely stoked for him! I was riding awesome in the contest, even had the best run of my life on friday, but couldn’t put it together on Saturday. Ended the weekend in 17th, meaning I have to go through the qualifying in Texas again. Luckily, I have two weeks home to work on my run and hopefully come into texas with some more heat. Check out the video of the finals, courtesy of wakeworld
The last two days I’ve been waking up early to shoot with Danny Thollander, Chris Canuel, and Alex Brown. Patrick Wieland from Alliancewake.com has been coming out to shoot us on Danny’s new rail and behind my boat out on Pickett. The first half hour of the day is always brutal, and I have to struggle to stay awake enough to drink my coffee. Once the caffeine sets in, everyone starts to get stoked and we begin to get moving. The rail was sick, and the Malibu VLX wake was huge! I’m definitely stoked with the footage we got, and am interested to see how the vid turns out. It was my first time shooting and meeting Patrick, so I had no idea how the shoot would turn out. But, quickly we started laughing and I knew it would be all good. For me, it definitely makes a difference if I get along with and feel comfortable with the filmer/photographer, and Patrick made that easy. Thanks to the boys and Patrick for inviting me on the shoot, the vid should be on AlliancWake.com early next week.
Its funny to think how loved the UPS/Fed Ex man is to most people in America. He never brings bad news, only presents that most likely you’ve been waiting for. With most wakeboarders I know, this is entirely to true. Nothing can put a smile on our faces like a visit from the “Brown Santa”. Yeah, we call the Fed Ex man the “Brown Santa”, for obvious reasons…..his brown truck. The other day I received one of my most exciting deliveries from the Brown Santa, and felt I had to share it with you. As people get older, christmas has less and less of a aura around it, and definitely becomes less exciting. Luckily for us, we have a replacement for that. My santa is the UPS/Fed Ex guy, and he can come any day of the year. I was just getting back from my trip to Manaus, and had been looking forward to my first shipment of clothing from Alpinestars. Mid morning rolled around, and to my joy, the Brown Santa pulled into my driveway. But, this was no ordinary day, as I received 3 boxes full of product. Not only did I receive the clothes from Alpinestars, but a new Faction 138 board and Faction vest were delivered as well. The downside of christmas for me was always that there was a large possibility of getting things that you entirely didn’t want, which is never the case with the Brown Santa. I always get what I want, and am always stoked by it! Thanks to Alpinestars for the rad clothing, stoked to get in it and represent for them! Check out more of their clothes at http://www.alpinestars.com/store/alpinestars_clothing.html. So to everyone out there, hope you have a Brown Santa coming to your house sometime soon.
Today was the first day of the competitions at Wake Stock in Abu Dhabi. We were able to practice behind the boat in the Am and on the pool jam setup in the afternoon. Around 7pm the pool jam qualifiers kicked off behind the System 2.o. I was in the first heat with Dean Smith, JD Webb, Trevor Hanson, and Danny Thollander. The setup was sick and super fun, and I ended up putting together most of my tricks and advanced to tomorrow night. Stoked to start the competitions on a good note. Practice this morning behind the Epic for the boat contest tomorrow didn’t go as smoothly as the Rail Jam. It was super windy so the wake was curling which was a big bummer. Nothing seemed to be going good. Next thing I know everyone in the boat was pointed at the wake behind me. There were dolphins jumping in and out of the wake about 15 feet behind me!! It stoked me out pretty good and I had a great set from there on out. Hoping the wind will die down tomorrow, but unfortunately I heard its supposed to be even worse. Pics tonight hopefully, just got wireless in the room!
Greetings from Abu Dhabi! After leaving monday afternoon at 3pm, Austin Hair,Danny Tholander and I just got into our hotel room in Abu Dhabi, at 1 Am on Wednesday morning! I’ve never spent so much time on a plain or sitting still in my life. Fortunately for myself, there are benifits to that, which I will explain. The first, is the wide variety of movies offered on international flights, and countless hours to enjoy them all! Austin and i started with Year One, an excellend comedy featuring Jack Black. After that I watched a documentary on Lebron James’s highschool basketball career, and came to the conclusion that i’m going to start balling it up when i get back state side! Also, i’m pretty sure that I have one of the healthiest hearts in Abu Dhabi right now, courtesty of the comlemenary red wine on British airways. Did i mention the free food? It was like a Golden Coral buffet instead they brought the food to our seats! The only downside of it all is that my body has no idea of what time it is, what day it is, and when to fall asleep. I’ve pretty much been up since monday now. Throughout our journey Austin Hair and I have been and will continue to film our experiences to bring to you on my site and iwake.com. Fortunately for us, we’ll have 24hrs to sit in a plane and edit on the way home. As far as the World Cup, we have practice tomorrow for the boat competition which runs thursday through saturday. Also, every night will feature a railjam and live concert from various bigtime bands that i’ve never heard of. Tomorrow should be a fun day, and hopefully i’ll get some pics to post of it all. Now, i’m going to try and get some much needed rest.
